Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS)

This study analyzed an even larger swath of sky than the GOODS or AEGIS surveys in order to probe the universe's structure and the formation and evolution of galaxies. Hubble, Chandra, and an armada of space- and ground-based observatories contributed to the survey. Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), for example, analyzed more than 2,000 spiral galaxies in the largest galaxy census ever undertaken by the ACS.
